How Local Processing Works
Your media stays on your device. All processing happens locally in your browser.
Select or Drop File
Your browser opens the file directly from your local filesystem using modern File APIs.
Process in Memory
Your browser's WebCodecs and WebAssembly engines decode and re-encode media frames locally, entirely on your device.
Save to Device
The result is saved directly back to your device. Your files are not uploaded for processing.

Local Processing vs Cloud Converters
Why processing locally in the browser provides unmatched privacy, speed, and security.
| Feature / Guarantee | LocalVideoKit (Local) | Traditional Cloud Converters |
|---|---|---|
| File Transfer & Upload | 0 Bytes (Never leaves your device) | Entire file uploaded to remote cloud servers |
| Privacy & Data Retention | No copies of your files on any server | Files are sent to a remote server |
| Processing Latency | No upload or queue | Upload waiting time + processing queues |
| Watermarks or Limits | No watermarks, no file size paywalls | Watermarks, caps, or forced paid tiers |
Frequently Asked Questions
Are my video or audio files ever uploaded?
No. LocalVideoKit processes all media files directly in your web browser using HTML5 File APIs, WebCodecs, and WebAssembly. Your files are never sent to any server or cloud service.
Is there a file size limit?
Because files are processed entirely in your browser's memory, the practical limit is your device's available RAM and your browser tab's memory ceiling. Shorter clips and files under a few hundred megabytes process comfortably on most devices; very large or long files may run slowly or fail on lower-memory devices.
What is the difference between remuxing and transcoding?
Remuxing changes the container (e.g. MKV to MP4) without modifying the compressed video stream, which takes seconds with zero quality loss. Transcoding decodes and re-encodes frames, which takes longer.
